Football Drops MIAA Opener to No. 20 Albion

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost its MIAA opener 48-6 to Albion College at Angell Field on Saturday.

Albion took advantage of two early Kalamazoo fumbles and scored on its first five possessions, leading 24-0 after the first quarter and 38-0 at halftime.

Kalamazoo got on the board in the fourth when Josh Nichols connected with Noah Piercy for a 25-yard touchdown.

Albion gained 518 yards of total offense while holding Kalamazoo to 186 yards. The teams combined for 23 penalties, 12 on Albion for 130 yards and 11 on Kalamazoo for 83 yards.

Josh Nichols finished 17-of-37 for 83 yards. Dawson Skupin was 3-for-5 for 21 yards.

Noah Piercy gained 30 yards on two catches. Jonah Spates had five catches for 16 yards. Lance Taylor (18 yards) and Conner Bell (16) each had two catches. 

Jon Brunette led the Hornets on the ground with 51 yards on 11 carries.

Ryan Hanifan, Carson Deines and Justin Negrete each had eight tackles. Deines also had an interception. Andrew Puckett was credited with a forced fumble.

Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 8 with a 2 p.m. start at Olivet.
