Football Falls at Olivet

OLIVET, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost 41-17 at Olivet College on Saturday. 

Kalamazoo trailed 13-0 less than six minutes into the game, but made it 13-10 following an Ian Burr field goal (49 yards) and a 3-yard touchdown pass from Josh Nichols to Lucas Hanifan.

Olivet scored three times in the second quarter to take a 34-10 lead into halftime.

Kalamazoo made it 34-17 in the third after returning a blocked punt for a touchdown. Olivet finished off the scoring with a touchdown a minute later. Neither team scored after the 8:24 mark left in the third quarter.

Olivet combined for 506 yards of total offense while holding Kalamazoo to 269. The Hornets had the ball nearly 32 minutes compared to 24 by the Comets.

Josh Nichols finished 21-of-37 passing for 209 yards with a touchdown.

Jonah Spates led the receivers with five catches for 46 yards. Bubba Wilson had three catches for 43 yards. Noah Piercy also had three catches for 33 yards.

Jon Brunette gained 35 yards on 11 carries. Conner Bell had 22 yards on seven carries.

Payton Fleming led the defense with 11 total tackles. Carson Deines finished with nine. Justin Negrete added seven.

Kalamazoo is on the road again next Saturday with a 5 p.m. start at Adrian.
