Football Drops Homecoming Game to Alma

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team lost its Homecoming game 45-21 to Alma College Saturday afternoon at Angell Field.

Both teams moved the ball offensively, but the Hornets trailed 7-0 after the first quarter and 28-0 at halftime.

Kalamazoo made it 28-7 midway through the third quarter on a 41-yard touchdown pass from Josh Nichols to Bubba Wilson. Alma responded with a touchdown and a field goal to lead 38-7 after the third quarter.

Kalamazoo scored on a 25-yard pass from Nichols to Jon Brunette early in the fourth. After a long touchdown run by Alma, Kalamazoo scored again on a 3-yard pass from Sheldon Riley to Nate Clark making it 45-21 with 6:50 remaining. Alma used up over five minutes before punting, and Kalamazoo was unable to score again before time expired.

Alma put up 530 yards of total offense. Kalamazoo totalled 403 yards, the Hornets second-highest total of the season.

Josh Nichols was 20-of-33 passing for 261 yrds with two touchdowns.

Bubba Wilson led the receivers with 77 yards on four catches with a score. Jonah Spates had five catches for 33 yards. Lance Taylor and Sam Hughes each had two catches for 27 yards.

Jon Brunette led the rushing attack with 53 yards on 11 carries. He also had one catch for a 25-yard touchdown. Sheldon Riley had 10 carries for 47 yards with a touchdown pass.

Madison Barch was 3-for-3 on extra points in the game.

Payton Fleming had 10 tackles along with a sack and an interception at the goalline. Jack Miller had 10 tackles with one for lost yardage.

Micah Groom and Carson Deines each had seven tackles. Tommy Kartes finished with six.

Kalamazoo is back in action next Saturday, Oct. 29 with a 1 p.m. start at Hope College.
