Mark Ghafari named MIAA Player of the Week

Kalamazoo College's Mark Ghafari was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Player of the Week on Monday.

A senior from Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich. (Grosse Pointe University Liggett HS), Ghafari earned Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week by averaging 28 points as the Hornets split a pair of weekend nonconference games. He fired in 27 points and dished out six assists in leading Kalamazoo to a 93-86 win over Bluffton, Ohio, and scored 29 points, including five 3-pointers, in a 100-83 loss to the University of Chicago.

Ghafari, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the third time in his career, shot 53 percent from the field (18 of 34), 47 percent from 3-point range (9 of 19) and 79 percent from the free-throw line (11 of 14).

Kalamazoo (3-1) hosts Elmhurst College on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m.
