OLIVET, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team won 67-63 at Olivet in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Thursday.
The host Comets scored the first 12 points of the game before Kalamazoo scored the next 10 to make it 12-10 with 12:40 remaining in the first half. After a few lead changes, the score was tied 32-32 at halftime.
Kalamazoo held a slim lead most of the second half until the score was tied 63-63 with 1:50 remaining. Merritt Hamann's layup with 1:18 left put the Hornets up two. Hamann also made two free throws in the final 21 seconds to secure the four-point win.
Kalamazoo shot 38.2 percent overall compared to 40.3 percent by Olivet. The Hornets made one more 3-pointer than the Comets and sank 15-of-23 free throws compared to 4-of-6 by Olivet. Kalamazoo also outrebounded Olivet, 43-30.
Thomas Cook led the Hornets with 17 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists, marking his second consecutive double-double. Merritt Hamann also had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Calder Pellerin added 12 points with six rebounds while Bobby Samples finished with 10 points and seven assists.
Kalamazoo is scheduled to host Adrian next at home on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m.
