GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team fell on the road at Calvin University by a score of 96-66 Thursday night in a game that was postponed a day due to weather.

Lukas Broadsword's layup ten seconds into the game gave the Hornets (4-14, 1-5 MIAA) a quick 2-0 advantage, but this would prove to be the only Kalamazoo lead of the evening. The Knights tied the game 15 seconds later and stretched the lead to double-digits, 19-9, with 12:40 remaining in the first half.

After Nicholas Olmeda sank a free throw to complete an old-fashioned three-point play with 9:38 left in the half, K found itself back within single digits, 23-14. Calvin then responded with a 29-12 run to take a sizable 52-26 lead into the break.

As the second half played out, the Hornets were unable to make much of a dent in the Knight's lead. Calvin was able to keep its lead in the high twenties or low thirties for almost all of the second half.

Olmeda's 12 points made him the only Kalamazoo player to reach double-digit scoring. He did most of his damage from the free-throw line, sinking eight of his nine attempts. DJ Courtney added nine points and team-highs in rebounds (six) and assists (two).  Broadsword finished with seven points and a pair of blocked shots.

Kalamazoo shot the ball well from the field, making 22 of 48 shots overall (46%), but only six of 20 from beyond the three-point arc (30%). Calvin did a ton of its damage from long range, making 15 of 30 attempts (50%) on its way to shooting 55% overall from the field (35-64). The home squad also claimed the advantage in rebounding (39-26), assists (24-8), and steals (9-4).

Next up for the Hornets is a home game against Albion on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
