ADRIAN, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was defeated at Adrian College by a score of 78-59 Saturday evening.

Kalamazoo started the game firing on all cylinders, and after an Addison Atwater three-point basket with 13:39 remaining, the Hornets enjoyed an 18-3 lead. The home team steadied itself, however, and went on a 21-6 run over the next 8:03 to pull within two, 26-24, with 5:36 remaining in the half. The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the period and the Hornets took a 36-34 lead into the locker room.

The squads continued to swap the lead back and forth at the start of the second half until Adrian retook the lead for good on a three-point basket with 16:38 remaining. The three-pointer gave Adrian a 42-40 edge and resulted in the fifth and final lead change of the second half. The Bulldogs stretched their advantage to double-digits, 61-50, on a pair of free throws with 9:36 left and the visitors were unable to chop the Adrian lead back to single digits before time expired.

Lukas Broadsword led Kalamazoo (5-16, 2-8 MIAA) with 15 points and three assists and added a blocked shot and a steal. Atwater tallied 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal, and Ty Horky chipped in ten points. DJ Courtney led the Hornets with seven rebounds and Josh Decker contributed eight points and six boards.

Kalamazoo shot 35% overall from the field (20-57) and 28% from distance (8-29), while Adrian managed 48% (26-54) overall and 36% (8-22) from long range. The Bulldogs had the edge in rebounds (34-32), assists (15-11), blocks (3-2) and steals (8-5).

Next up for the Hornets is a home game on Monday when they face Hope in a contest rescheduled from Jan. 26. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30.
