KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team dropped a 94-56 decision to the Trine University Thunder Wednesday night at Anderson Athletic Center.

Addison Atwater's long jumper gave the Hornets (5-18, 2-10 MIAA) a quick 3-0 lead just 16 seconds into the game, but when Trine's Bryce Williams made the first of his 11 three-pointers a short time later, the Thunder took a 5-3 lead that they would not relinquish.

Another Williams three-pointer gave Trine its first double-digit lead of the evening, 21-9, with 9:01 left in the half. The Thunder stretched it to a 17-point advantage on another Williams trey with 5:37 remaining, but when Ty Horky's three-pointer found the bottom of the net with 3:30 left, the Hornets found themselves facing a manageable 33-21 deficit.

A prompt 8-0 run from Trine threw water on Kalamazoo's comeback aspirations, however, and allowed the Thunder to take a commanding 41-21 lead into the half.

Chris Cayton's layup cut the lead to 14 points, 52-38, with 14:29 left in the game, but Trine would not allow the Hornets to get any closer, putting its foot on the gas and outscoring the home team 42-18 the rest of the way.

Horky was Kalamazoo's leading scorer, netting 15 points and adding three rebounds, a steal, and an assist. DJ Courtney was the other Hornet in double-figure scoring with 12.

Lukas Broadsword chipped team-highs in rebounds (eight) and assists (five).  Atwater added nine points, three assists, and a pair of steals, while Josh Decker scored nine points and grabbed seven boards.

The visitors claimed the advantages in field-goal percentage (52-44%) and rebounds (30-27), but it was ball security that really stung the Hornets. Horky had nine of his team's 31 turnovers, while Calvin as a team had just ten. Calvin also dished 25 assists to the Hornets' 12.

Next up, the Hornets will face a quick turnaround, hosting Alma on Thursday night for a 7:30 tip.
