Men's Basketball Falls to DePauw

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team was defeated 79-64 by DePauw University inside Anderson Athletic Center Thursday afternoon.

The Hornets held an early lead, and the game was tied 17-17 midway through the first half. Kalamazoo led 20-19 with 7:17 remaining before DePauw outscored Kalamazoo 27-12 to take a 46-32 lead into halftime.

DePauw led by as many as 23 in the second half before Kalamazoo cut it to 15 in the closing minutes.

The visiting Tigers (10-3) shot 55.6 percent in the first half and finished at 45.2 percent for the game. Kalamazoo shot 40.4 percent overall. DePauw held a 36-33 edge in rebounds, including 5-4 on the offensive end.

DePauw's Elijah Hales helped build the Tigers' lead with 29 first-half points while making 7-of-9 three-pointers. He finished with a game-high 39 while hitting 9-of-16 three-pointers.

DJ Courtney led Kalamazoo with a career-high 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting with 4-of-8 three's and 3-for-3 at the free throw line. He also grabbed six rebounds and had three assists.

Lukas Broadsword finished with nine points and six rebounds. Ty Horky added eight points.

The Hornets will take a break from competition until Jan. 4 when they begin MIAA play at home against Alma College at 7 p.m.
