Men's Lacrosse Falls to Alma

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team fell Thursday night against Alma 10-9 in a close battle with the Scots.  

Kalamazoo outscored Alma 4-2 in the first quarter behind back-to-back goals from Jack Smith and Jack Loveland's first of many in the contest. The Hornets were held scoreless in the second quarter while Alma got in two goals to make things a 4-4 tie at halftime. 

Alma opened the second half with back-to-back goals before Loveland brought the Hornets back within one of the Scots with a goal at 10:57. The deficit got larger as Alma went on to score three straight goals before Loveland was able to get a last-second shot in, making things 9-6 heading into the final quarter. 

The Hornets aimed for a comeback in the fourth as Loveland scored again for the home team, followed up quickly by a shot in net by Smith and a man-up goal from Jack Jesko, his first of the game, to tie things at 9-9. Alma scored on its next possession at 4:53 to take a 10-9 lead. Kalamazoo attempted four shots as time ran out but was unable to score. 

Alma held a 39-34 advantage on shots attempted but the Hornets had more shots on goal with 18 to Alma's 15. Kalamazoo led 28-26 in ground balls and caused seven Alma turnovers. 

Jack Loveland led Kalamazoo with four goals including two in the third quarter. 

Jack Smith scored three goals while Jack Jesko and Brandon Wright each had one.  

Goalie Dylan Wickey made his first career start for the Hornets, recording five saves.  

The Hornets are scheduled to host Calvin for their next game on April 3 at 1 p.m.
