KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team tied 4-4 with Alma in the first round of the MIAA Tournament with the Scots advancing by penalty kicks, 4-2.

The Hornets went up 2-1 in the first half of play. Alex Wallace scored right out of the gate at 1:03, assisted by Gold Afolabi. The Scots were able to tie things up with a goal in the 33rd minute, but Kalamazoo was quick to take back the lead ten minutes later when Ben Meschke came up with a goal off a pass from Wallace at 43:16.

In the start of the second half, Luke Kastran received a yellow card to give Alma a penalty kick opportunity, which they capitalized on to make things 2-2.  The lead change went to the Scots in the 63rd minute when they again scored.

With 11 minutes left to play, Gold Afolabi brought the ball down the midline to set up a corner kick for the Hornets. Still in Alma territory, Wallace set up a header pass to Meschke to take a successful shot on goal, making it 3-3 with just ten minutes left to play. The Hornets again scored with just three minutes to play their victory with a long goal by Wallace, but Alma quickly followed up at the two-minute mark with a goal of their own, ending regulation at 4-4.

Two overtimes went by scoreless to take the game into a shootout decision. Alma advanced in shootout fashion with four successful shots to Kalamazoo's two.
