Men's Swimming & Diving Competes at Davenport Quad

KENTWOOD, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's swimming and diving team participated in the Davenport Quad on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 4-5). The Hornets competed against Davenport, Hope, and DePauw at the meet, finishing fourth. The Panthers scored the most points, with the Flying Dutchmen coming in second and the Tigers in third.

Kalamazoo had 21 top-eight finishes in the 14 events. In the 1-meter diving event, Sam Ankley, Luke Middlebrook, and Jose Torres-Rios took second through fourth. Ankley had 255.22 points, while Middlebrook had 204.82 and Torres-Rios had 159.90. Ankley turned around and took first in the 3-meter with 257.62 points. Middlebrook came in third with 220.94 points and Torres-Rios was in fifth with 158.17 points.

Ben Pickrel led the Hornets in the swimming part of the meet with three third-place finishes individually. Pickrel had a time of 4:22.89 in the 400 IM, a 1:59.34 in the 200 Back, and a 1:58.55 in the 200 Fly. Pickrel was also in four relays that finished in the top eight.

Pickrel, Erik Danielson, Oliver Tye, and Tim Karubas finished fourth in the 400 Medley Relay at 3:38.58. The same four came in fifth in the 200 Medley Relay at 1:39.07. A second team of Fuzail Ahmed, Jackson Rysavy, Alden Ehrhardt, and Daniel Koselka took eighth in the 200 Medley Relay. Coming in sixth at 3:19.25 was Pickrel, Tye, Karubas, and Zach Butters in the 400 Free Relay. Finally, that same team also took seventh in the 200 Free Relay at 1:29.92.

Butters had two other top-eight finishes individually, coming in sixth in the 500 Free at 5:03.45 and seventh in the 1650 Free at 17:41.51. Ahmed also had a good day, finishing sixth in the 100 Back at 56.14 and seventh in the 200 Back at 2:04.07. Tye came in fifth in the 100 Fly at 53.88 while also coming in seventh in the 100 Free at 49.96. Finally, Rysavy finished sixth in the 400 IM at 4:31.70.

The Hornets will host their next meet on Nov. 11 in the Natatorium. Kalamazoo, Calvin, and Olivet will begin the tri-meet at 5 p.m.
