Softball Defeated by Alma

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team lost 9-4 and 7-5 at home against Alma on Wednesday. 

Game One

Alma and Kalamazoo were tied through five innings before the Scots went up five runs to earn the win in extra innings. Alma led off the game with a run in the first inning before the Hornets scored four runners in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Sam Moss hit an RBI single with bases loaded to bring in one run, followed by three more runs advanced from a walk, a reach on an error and a single from Brynna Garden

The Scots scored in the next two innings to tie things at 4-4, a score that would stay until the top of the ninth inning. Alma came up with five runs in the frame and the Hornets were unable to rally in the bottom of the inning to give the visitors the 9-4 win.  

Alma had nine hits compared to seven by Kalamazoo. 

Nina Szalkiewicz was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Moss, Garden, Lizzy Rottenberk and Keelin McManus all had RBIs in the contest. 

Sammi Luzadre pitched the full nine innings and tied her career-high in strikeouts with seven. 

Game Two 

Alma defeated Kalamazoo 7-5 in the second game. Alma led 1-0 after one inning before the Hornets took the lead with five runs over the next five innings, recording five hits. Lizzy Rottenberk, Kelsey Diekman, and and Brynna Garden all had RBIs. The Scots tied things up in the bottom of the sixth before scoring two more runs to seal the win. 

Keelin McManus had three hits including a double and scored three runs. Diekman and Rottenberk each went 2-for-4 with two hits and two RBI. Lucy Hart and Nina Szalkiewicz each hit doubles.
