Softball Splits with Saint Mary's

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College softball team split a pair of games on the road at Saint Mary's today, winning 5-2 in the first game and falling 9-0 to the Belles in the afternoon.   

Game One

The Hornets went up 2-0 in their first at-bat, highlighted by an RBI triple from Sam Moss to score Nina Szalkiewicz who was on base from a single. They added two runs in the top of the third, as Lucy Hart came up with a triple out to right field and a trip home on a passed ball. Szalkiewicz also crossed home plate again for Kalamazoo. 

In the fifth inning, Keelin McManus hit a double and was brought home by Brynna Garden with an RBI single out to center field. 

Saint Mary's scored one run in the third and tried for a rally in the sixth but were still put away by Kalamazoo who earned the 5-2 victory. 

Kalamazoo had eight hits to Saint Mary's 12.

Sammi Luzadre pitched a complete game and struck out two batters. 

Lucy Hart was 2-for-4 at the plate. Brynna Garden was 1-for-4 with two RBI. 

Game Two

Saint Mary's led 2-0 after the first inning before adding three more runs in the top of the fourth and four in the fifth to win in just five innings, shutting out the Hornets. 

Kalamazoo had two hits in the contest, a single to left field in the bottom of the second by Keelin McManus and a base hit by Sam Moss in the bottom of the fifth.  

Lizzy Rottenberk pitched for 3.1 innings and allowed five runs to score. Moss came in for relief for the final two innings.
