Softball Splits Opening Doubleheader With Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College softball team split its opening doubleheader at Franklin College on Sunday. Franklin won the opener 11-8. Kalamazoo won the second game 4-1.

Game One

Kalamazoo opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first, but Franklin scored two in the bottom half and four in the second to take a 6-3 lead. The Hornets cut it to 6-5 in the third, but fell behind 8-5 in the fourth. Kalamazoo tied it 8-8 in the top of the sixth only to see Franklin score three in the bottom half and hold the Hornets scoreless in the top of the seventh.

Franklin had 17 hits in the game compared to 14 by the Hornets.

Lizzy Rottenberk was 4-for-4. Bella Caza and Julia Rambo each had three hits. Rambo had two doubles, while Lucy Hart also had a double and two RBIs.

Game Two

Kalamazoo scored two in the second and led 2-1 after three. The Hornets added two more in the top of the seventh while keeping the Grizzlies scoreless over the final four innings to seal the win.

Kalamazoo had 11 hits in the game compared to eight by Franklin.

Amy McNutt had three hits, including two doubles, with two RBIs. Lizzy Rottenberk and Julia Rambo each had two hits in the game. Reese Koski had two hits including a double.

Sam Moss went all seven innings on the mound to earn the win.
