The All-MIAA women's softball teams were announced Thursday afternoon and Kalamazoo College saw a pair of Hornets honored, as Lucy Hart was named to the first team and teammate Lizzy Rottenberk to the second team.

Hart, a junior biochemistry major from Evanston, Ill. (Evanston H.S.), led the team in batting (.415), on-base percentage (.471), slugging (.613), doubles (11), triples (two), RBIs (30) and tied for the team lead in home runs with two. She was also named the MIAA Position Player of the Week on March 28.

"Lucy had a fantastic season both offensively and defensively," said Hornet Head Coach Kelli Duimstra. "She can hit for both average and power and is one of the best hitters in the conference. She consistently came through for our team in big situations and we wouldn't have been as successful as we were without her in the lineup.

"Lucy was also excellent defensively. She led the league in putouts (132) and total chances (134) and only made one error all year."

Joining Hart as a first-time All-MIAA honoree is Rottenberk, a sophomore math/English major from Waterford (Clarkston H.S.) who played centerfield and also pitched for the Hornets.

"The improvement Lizzy made from her freshman year to sophomore year was incredible," Duimstra said. "She was our leadoff batter every game this year and consistently got our offense going. Not only did she finish the season with a great batting average, but she's always a threat to steal bases, which makes our offense much more dynamic.

Rottenberk led the Hornets in stolen bases with 12, the second-consecutive year she has done so. She was second on the team in batting (.384), on-base percentage (.431) and slugging (.480). She also pitched a no-hitter at Olivet on April 23.

"As good as she was offensively, she also finished the season without committing an error as a center fielder and pitcher, which is something that shouldn't be overlooked," said Duimstra.

The Hornets finished the season with a 21-13 record, including an 8-8 mark in conference play. The 21 wins is a program record, eclipsing the previous record of 14 set in 1996.
