KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost its season opener 111-30 to No. 1 Hope College on Saturday.
The Hornets shot 50 percent (4-for-8) in the first quarter behind strong shooting from Jayla Gill and Juanita Ledesma, but were unable to contain Hope's offense as the Dutch went on to score 30 in the first frame.
Hope outscored Kalamazoo 27-10 in the second quarter to take the lead at halftime.
The Hornets tallied 16 points in the paint and made five of nine free-throws (55.6 percent).
Gill led Kalamazoo with 11 points, the only Hornet to score in double-digits. She added two steals and an assist.
Isabelle Clark scored eight points, while Ledesma added seven points and three rebounds. Kylah Davis led the team on the boards with five rebounds.
Kalamazoo returns to play on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at No. 5 Trine at 7:30 p.m.
