KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team dropped a 65-42 decision to the visiting St. Mary's College Belles Monday night at Anderson Athletic Center.

St. Mary's jumped off to a 16-2 lead after 7:12 of play and lead 21-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Hornets dug in, however, and when Laila Vincent's layup dropped with 4:12 remaining, it cut the lead to 23-22. The Belles then scored the final seven points of the quarter to take a 30-22 lead into the break.

A St. Mary's jump shot 15 seconds into the third quarter boosted the Belles' lead back to double digits, 32-22, where it would remain for most of the second half. Sara English's three with 56 seconds remaining slashed the St. Mary's advantage to eight, 42-34, but that was as close as the Hornets would get. The visitors outscored Kalamazoo 21-8 in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Vincent led the Hornets (3-11, 1-5 MIAA) with 13 points and two blocks. Christiana Hunt tallied 11 points, seven rebounds, and three assists and Kaelyn Arlington grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Although neither team was able to shoot the ball at a high percentage, St. Mary's had the advantage in rebounds (57-47), assists (13-7), steals (7-3), and turnovers (9-18).

The Hornets will continue their homestand on Wednesday when they host Oberlin for a 6 p.m. tip.
