Women's Basketball Defeated at Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team fell at Adrian College, 68-45, Saturday afternoon.

The first quarter began with the host Bulldogs taking a 7-1 lead with 8:25 remaining. Kalamazoo's Kaelyn Arlington responded with a jump shot and then teammate Jackie Brines hit a three-pointer and a layup in succession to give the Hornets their first lead of the game at 8-7.

Adrian took back the lead, but a Christiana Hunt jumper with 1:07 remaining gave K a 13-12 advantage with 1:01 left. Adrian tallied the final three points of the quarter to take a 15-13 lead at the break.

The second quarter and third quarters were where Adrian seized control of the game. The Hornets sank six of their 28 field goal attempts in the middle two quarters, and the Bulldogs took advantage, outscoring K by a combined score of 38-16 on their way to taking a commanding 53-28 lead into the fourth.

Laila Vincent paced the Hornets (3-19, 1-12 MIAA) with 15 points and eight rebounds. Brines finished with six points and Arlington added five points, six boards, and a pair of steals.

Kalamazoo finished the game shooting 27% (16-56) overall and 1-17 (6%) from distance. Adrian shot 35% overall (23-65) and 14% (3-21) from beyond the arc, and had the advantages in rebounds (53-34), assists (17-4), steals (10-9), and blocks (3-0).

Next up for the Hornets is a road trip to Olivet on Monday. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Jan. 22 and will tip-off at 7 p.m.
