Women's Basketball Falls to Manchester

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost 77-43 to Manchester University Saturday afternoon inside the Anderson Athletic Center.

The visiting Spartans took an early lead with the first 11 points of the game. Despite the slow start, Kalamazoo was still within 10 (21-11) at the end of the first quarter. Manchester outscored Kalamazoo 27-9 in the second to take a 48-20 lead into halftime.

Kalamazoo cut into the deficit in the third, outscoring Manchester 14-11 in the quarter. Manchester pulled away in the fourth with an 18-9 advantage in the final quarter.

Manchester shot 40.3 percent overall, including 6-of-20 three-pointers. Kalamazoo shot 28.3 percent overall with 1-of-10 three-pointers. Kalamazoo made 12-of-16 free throws, compared to 9-17 by Manchester. The Spartans held a 46-44 edge in rebounding. 

Kaelyn Arlington led the Hornets with 13 points and 10 rebounds. It marks her second consecutive double-double and seventh in her career at K.

Jackie Brines added 10 points in 24 minutes off the bench, shooting 3-for-6 from the field and 4-of-5 at the free throw line.

Kylah Davis pulled down nine rebounds, including a team-high three on the offensive end. Maddie Coffman led the team with three assists. 

Kalamazoo travels to Eureka College on Sunday before opening MIAA play at Olivet on Wednesday.
