ADRIAN, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team won its season opener 14-3 at Adrian College on Sunday.
Rachel Madar scored five goals in the first 13 minutes of the game to give the Hornets a 5-0 lead. Adrian got on the board with 14:22 left in the half. Kalamazoo scored three more goals in the final 13 minutes to lead 8-1 at halftime.
Kalamazoo outscored Adrian 6-2 in the second half en route to the 13-1 victory.
Kalamazoo outshot Adrian 40-6 overall while also holding advantages in ground balls (28-17) and draw controls (15-3).
Rachel Madar led the Hornets with six goals on 11 shots with a team-high eight draw controls.
Hannah Hereren scored three goals on five shots with four ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Leah Tardiff added two goals.
Mackenzie Maiorano, Lilly Baumann, and Jordan Reichenbach each scored once.
Rose Bogard led the team with two assists. Baumann and Maiorano each had six ground balls while Hannah Wolfe led the team with five caused turnovers.
Gwen Davis made two saves in goal.
Kalamazoo is scheduled to play Calvin next Saturday, Feb. 27 at 12 p.m. at Grand Rapids Christian High School.
