KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team defeated Calvin 14-13 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon.

Kalamazoo scored the first goal of the game with a shot by Rachel Madar. Madar and freshman Hannah Heeren combined for five goals in the first half. Calvin traded points with the Hornets throughout the half with Kalamazoo taking a narrow 5-4 lead into the break.

The second half saw seven separate ties between the two teams as Calvin evened things up 5-5 with their first goal of the half. The Hornets went up 7-5 off back-to-back goals from Rose Bogard and Lilly Baumann, but the Knights held on, outscoring Kalamazoo 9-8 in the second half and taking things into overtime with a 13-13 tie. Madar added another two goals in the second half, while Baumann scored her first two.

Neither team was able to score in the first overtime period, remaining at 13-13 until 2:27 in the second overtime. Madar caused a turnover to be drawn from Calvin's Meghan Economou to take possession near the Calvin goal. Madar then set up for a free position attempt and scored for the Hornets to secure a 14-13 victory.

While Calvin held the advantage with 32 shots to Kalamazoo's 26, the Hornets were able to outpace the Knights with 21 shots on goal to Calvin's 20. Kalamazoo won 20 draw controls, the Knights 10.

Rachel Madar led the Hornets with seven goals, nine shots on goal and 12 draw controls.

Hannah Heeren added three goals and two assists.

Goalie Gwen Davis made seven saves for the Hornets.
