Women's Lacrosse Falls to Trine

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team suffered a 15-13 loss to Trine on Saturday in a tight game that saw ten ties and seven different lead changes. 

The Hornets scored the game's first goal, but Trine was quick to even things up at 1-1. Both teams traded goals throughout the first half to end in an 8-8 tie after 30 minutes of play. Hannah Heeren scored three goals during the half to earn a hat trick.

Kalamazoo scored the first goal of the second half before Trine re-tied the game. A goal from Leah Tardiff made the score 10-9 in Kalamazoo's favor, but Trine went on to outscore the home team 6-3 in the last 15 minutes of play. After three straight goals from the Thunder, Kalamazoo attempted to cut into the deficit with goals from Heeren and Lilly Baumann, but was unable to take back the lead. 

Kalamazoo outshot Trine by a narrow 35-34 margin and had 29 shots on goal to the Thunders' 24. The Hornets collected 30 ground balls as a team, won 17 draw controls and caused five Trine turnovers.   

Hannah Heeren led the Hornets with four goals on 11 shots and six ground balls. She added an assist and caused one opponent turnover. 

Lilly Baumann, Rose Bogard, Leah Tardiff and Mackenzie Maiorano each scored two goals. Bogard and Baumann collected five ground balls each. 

Hannah Wolfe scored her first goal of the season. 

Gwen Davis had nine saves in goal. 

The Hornets return to action on Saturday, March 20 when they host Hope at 1 p.m.
