ADRIAN, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team won its season opener 2-0 at Adrian College in MIAA play on Tuesday.

Anna Murphy put the Hornets up 1-0 with a goal in the 43rd minute just before haltime.

Destiny Garcia's goal in the 84th minute gave Kalamazoo a 2-0 advantage.

Kalamazoo held a 9-6 advantage in shots, including 4-2 on goal.

Hannah Wolfe made two saves in goal to earn the shutout.

"The women were phenomenal tonight," said Head Coach Bryan Goyings. "To be able to open the spring season with a win at the defending league champion is a testament to the discipline and hard work of the entire group over the past eight weeks.

"Getting to compete today was a victory in itself. To leave with a win was quite the bonus. It was a complete team effort. Hannah Wolfe came up big when we needed a big save. Olivia DePauli and Maeve Novotny really limited their attack. Emme DeConinck and Kai Ketola covered a tremendous amount of ground in the midfield, and the front line of Holly Bowling, Lauren McColley, and Destiny Garcia were dangerous all night."

Kalamazoo is scheduled to be back in action Friday, March 26 at Alma College at 4 p.m.

"Building off the game tonight will be key as we continue MIAA competition."
