Kalamazoo College women's soccer Ellie Andrews was named the SAAC Women's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 13).
This past week, the Hornets went 2-1 with a loss to nationally-ranked Chicago, and one-goal road wins against Kenyon and Denison. The two wins boosted their record to 2-1-2 on the season, and they have two more road games before MIAA play begins.
Andrews was thrown into a defender spot after injuries caused the team to have a shortage. She responded in a big way by playing 230 of the 270 possible minutes and helping limit opponents to three total goals on the week. Andrews kept constant pressure on the opponent's attackers while getting the ball out to her midfielders and forwards for offensive possessions.
Offensively, Andrews scored her first collegiate goal in the 2-1 win over Kenyon. After Kalamazoo sent a corner kick into the box, Andrews collected the loose ball, volleyed it into the air, and shot it just under the crossbar as time expired in the first half.
Kalamazoo will continue its five-game road stretch with a visit to Ohio Northern in Ada, Ohio, with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 14).
