ANGOLA, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team traveled to face Trine in an MIAA match-up on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 12). An early goal by the Thunder was the only offense in the game as the Hornets fell 1-0.

"I thought the team was sharp to start today and thought we had a goal coming with our early pressure," said Head Coach Bryan Goyings. "Trine's goal was against the run of play, which was unfortunate."

Defensive play was the name of the game in the first half as Kalamazoo held the 3-2 shot advantage. However, the game's lone goal was scored on Trine's first shot of the half in the 14th minute. The Hornets did get all three of their shots on the net, but all of them came in the first 15 minutes. The Thunder led by one goal at the half.

The second half was mainly on Trine's offensive side of the field, as they took seven shots compared to Kalamazoo's two. Unfortunately, neither of the shots were on target, as the score remained 1-0 until the final whistle blew.

Coach Goyings also said, "The game leveled out after both teams had their moments. Mia Crites and Anna Murphy provided strong midfield play for us throughout the game. But, unfortunately, the lone goal proved to be the difference today. Nevertheless, every point in the league is important, and I know the group will be prepared to step on the field to compete again on Saturday."

Lexi Nesbitt (5-5-2) made two saves on three opportunities in the loss. Trine finished with more shots (9-5) and corner kicks (3-0), and saves (3-2), while Kalamazoo had more fouls (9-7).

The Hornets will continue MIAA play with a road game against Saint Mary's on Saturday (Oct. 15), beginning at 12 p.m.
