Women's Swimming & Diving Competes at Calvin Invitational

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's swimming and diving competed in a three-day meet at the Calvin Invitational on Thursday-Saturday (Dec. 1-3). The Hornets competed against Calvin, Findlay, Grand Valley, Grove City, Indiana Wesleyan, and Northern Michigan at the event.

Grand Valley won the meet at 2,129.5 points, with Northern Michigan (1,909.5), Findlay (1,427.5), Calvin (1,450.5), Indiana Wesleyan (893), Grove City (602), and Kalamazoo (510) following the Lakers.

Thursday

On the first day, Kalamazoo had two teams compete in the 200 Free Relay. Olivia Bagwell, Anni Schnell, Camille Misra, and Mya Richter finished at 1:39.38 in 14th, while Ava Williams, Katie Rock, Hailey Yoder, and Lizzy Silber came in 23rd with a time of 1:44.92. The Hornets also had two teams in the 400 Medley Relay as Misra, Schnell, Richter, and Mary Muenzenmaier finished in 4:03.70. Bagwell, Lena Klemm, Elizabeth Muenzenmaier, and Frannie Turner touched the wall in 24th at 4:17.38.

Individually, the team had two swimmers make finals in their events. Misra placed eighth (16th overall) in the B Final of the 50 Free with a time of 24.53. In the 200 IM, Turner finished seventh (23rd overall) in the C Final at 2:17.23.

Friday

Day two began with the 200 Medley Relay and the Misra, M. Muenzenmaier, Schnell, and Richter team came in 14th at 1:50.65. Kalamazoo also had a second team in the event as Klemm, E. Muenzenmaier, Turner, and Silber finished in 25th at 1:59.15.

In total, seven Hornet swimmers made finals in their individual events. Misra had the best finish of the day in fifth of the A Final for the 100 Back at 57.97. Schnell came in seventh (15th overall) in the B Final of the 100 Fly at 1:00.15. Then, M. Muenzenmaier won the C Final (17th overall) in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:10.37.

Saturday

On the final day, the only relay was the 400 Free Relay, where Kalamazoo had two teams compete. Misra, Schnell, Bagwell, and Richter finished 14th at 3:40.87, while Willams, Yoder, Turner, and Silber came in 19th at 3:47.07. Another six Hornets made finals in their swimming events on day three.

Turner came in fourth (12th overall) in the B Final of the 200 Fly. In the 200 Back, Misra continued her successful meet by finishing fifth (13th overall) in the B Final with a time of 2:09.28. Sam Vande Pol competed in the A Final for the 3-meter dive and finished seventh with 376.50 points.

Kalamazoo will not compete again until after the new year. The Hornets will host the Michigan-Illinois Quad on Saturday (Jan. 14) in the Natatorium.
