Sam Vande Pol of the Kalamazoo College women's swimming & diving team was selected as the MIAA Women's Diver of the Week on Monday (Dec. 5). This is the first career diver of the week honor for the sophomore.

The women's swimming & diving team competed in the three-day Calvin Invitational meet this past weekend. The event consisted of three NCAA DII, two NCAA DIII, and one NAIA opponent. The Hornets ended up with 510 points as 23 competitors made the finals in their events.

Vande Pol was the best women's diver for Kalamazoo in the event, finishing seventh in the 3-meter and ninth in the 1-meter. The only divers to finish ahead of Vande Pol were those from Grand Valley and Northern Michigan. In 11 dive attempts, she finished with 356.50 points in the 3-meter and another 354.40 in the 1-meter. Her combined 730.90 points on the weekend were the seventh most out of 21 divers.

This event was the first time the divers did 11 dives instead of six this season. Last season, Vande Pol posted 387.30 points in the 1-meter and 382.45 points in the 3-meter for her season best with 11 dives. This season, she has set a new personal best with 237.07 points in the 3-meter for six dives. Her personal best for the 1-meter with six dives came last season with 237.90 points.

Kalamazoo has completed its 2022 portion of the schedule and will be back in action by hosting the Michigan-Illinois Quad on Jan. 14.
