Volleyball Drops Close Match to Oberlin

OLIVET, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team lost a close match to Oberlin College at Olivet on Saturday.

Oberlin used an 8-2 run midway through the first set to with the opener 25-14.

Kalamazoo led 6-2 and 11-6 in the second set before Oberlin tied it at 12-12. Kalamazoo led 23-20 late, but gave up the final five points to fall 25-23. 

The third set went back-and-forth with Kalamazoo having the opportunity to win the set with two set points. Oberlin rallied both times and scored the final three points to win the set and the match.

Oberlin hit .307 in the match compared to .129 by the Hornets.

Hannah VanderLugt and Charlotte Ruiter each had six kills to lead the Hornets offensively. Ruiter also had three solo blocks.

Toni Koshmider and Halley Johnson each had four kills.

Charlotte Ruiter led the team with 13 assists. Sara Reathaford added nine.

Morgan Shearer had a team-high 10 digs with seven aces. Brittany Miller had six digs.

Kalamazoo is back in action Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Great Lakes Christian College.
