Volleyball Defeated by Trine

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College volleyball team lost to Trine University in four sets at home Wednesday night, 17-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-21.

Kalamazoo jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first set before leading by as many as 11 (14-3). Trine cut the deficit to six late (23-17) before Kalamazoo closed out the set with the 25-17 win.

Trine responded with an early lead in set two. Kalamazoo tied it at 13-13 but could never pull ahead. Trine scored the final four points to take the set, 25-16.

Kalamazoo led 5-1 early in the second set before Trine tied it at 8-8. The Thunder pulled ahead by as many as six (20-14). Kalamazoo closed the gap to three (22-19) before Trine scored three of the last four points to win the set, 25-20.

There were six ties and three lead changes in the fourth set. Kalamazoo led by as many as five (9-4) and was up 15-11 before a 6-0 run by Trine put the Thunder ahead. The score was tied 18-18 before Trine scored seven of the last 10 points to win the set (25-21) and the match.

Trine hit .096 in the match compared to .051 by Kalamazoo. The Thunder had 11 total team blocks compared to six by the Hornets.

Brittany Miller led Kalamazoo with 10 kills. Ann Lawrence had eight kills, while Halley Johnson finished with seven.

Jana Molby led the Hornets with 19 assists. Sara Reathaford had 13. 

Morgan Shearer had a team-high 19 digs. Lizzy Rachiele finished with 11.

Kalamazoo returns to action Friday, Oct. 30, with a non-conference match at North Park University.
