KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Rachael Gallap of the Kalamazoo College cross country team was named the women's SAAC Hornet of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Gallap, a senior runner from Kalamazoo, Mich. (Portage Northern HS) finished fifth in the 5000-meter race at the MIAA Championships on Saturday with a lifetime best time of 18:26.29, shaving a full 50 seconds off her previous best in that race. Struggling with a foot injury prior to the 2021 season, Gallap had been running limited mileage at practice and only completed four weeks of normal training prior to the race.
Gallap had some of the best finishes for the Hornets this season in their three meets. At Albion on April 9 she won the women's 5000-meter race in 19:15.17.
"Rachael provided great leadership this season and continues to set the bar for patient, smart racing," Head Coach Kyle Morrison commented.
