Baseball falls in doubleheader at St. Catharine (Ky.)

The Kalamazoo College baseball team lost a pair of games at NAIA St. Catharine College (Ky.) on Thursday, 9-2 and 8-1.

The host Patriots (22-7) took advantage of a five-run second inning in the opener to take the 9-2 win despite outhitting Kalamazoo just 6-4. St. Catharine had 10 walks in the game while Kalamazoo walked five times.

Anthony Shaheen was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Eric Glanz and Adam McDowell each drove in a run.

In the second game, St. Catharine scored multiple runs in each of the first three innings to take an 8-0 lead. Kalamazoo got on the board in the fifth inning when Mickey Amboyan drove in Brett Thomas on a sacrifice fly.

The Patriots had nine hits to Kalamazoo's five, but also took advantage of six Hornet errors.

David Menoian was 2-for-2 while Shaheen, Amboyan, and Marc Zughaib each had a hit.

Kalamazoo returns to Michigan to open MIAA play with a doubleheader at Albion on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m.

Sunday's doubleheader with Albion is also scheduled to be played in Albion because of snow in Kalamazoo.
