Baseball drops doubleheader to Hope

The Kalamazoo College baseball team lost a home doubleheader to Hope on Saturday, 16-2 and 6-1.

In the opener, Hope put up two runs in each of the first three innings before exploding in the fourth and fifth. The Flying Dutchmen had 16 hits in the game compared to seven for Kalamazoo.

Brett Thomas was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Marc Zughaib, Scott Devine, Adam McDowell, Mickey Amboyan, and David Menoian each had a single.

Kalamazoo took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first in the second game. Hope tied it up in the second inning before taking a 2-1 lead in the third. The score remained 2-1 until the top of the seventh when Hope scored four runs to take the 6-1 lead. Kalamazoo got one runner on in the bottom of the seventh, but was unable to push any additional runs across.

Hope had nine hits in the game compared to five for Kalamazoo.

Scott Devine was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Marc Zughaib, Brett Thomas, and Mickey Amboyan each had a single in the game.

Kalamazoo returns to action with a doubleheader against Calvin at Homer Stryker Field on Friday, April 5 at 2 p.m.
