Baseball downed by Holy Cross, 6-0 and 9-8 (11 inn.)

The Kalamazoo College baseball team lost a pair of non-conference games to Holy Cross College (Ind.) on Tuesday at Homer Stryker Field.

Kalamazoo lost the opener, 6-0. Holy Cross scored two in the first inning, three in the third, and one in the seventh.

The Saints had 10 hits in the game compared to four for the Hornets.

Anthony Shaheen had a double while Marc Zughaib, Eric Glanz, and Scott Devine each singled.

Kalamazoo dropped the second game 9-8 in 11 innings.

Kalamazoo trailed 7-4 going into the bottom of the seventh, but the Hornets were able to score three runs to send the game to extra innings. Matt Beck got things going with a two-out single. Joey Aliotta sent a pinch-hit double over the centerfielder's head to drive home Beck. Mickey Amboyan walked and the runners advanced to second and third on an errant pickoff attempt by the Holy Cross. Marc Zughaib followed up with a single up the middle to drive home the two runs that tied the game.

After a scoreless eighth inning, Holy Cross pushed a run across in the ninth, but the Hornets evened the score again in the bottom of the ninth.

Holy Cross scored again in the 11th and was able to hold the 9-8 lead through the bottom half to secure the win.

Kalamazoo had 11 hits in the game compared to 10 for Holy Cross.

Eric Glanz was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Joey Aliotta had a double and an RBI. Seven other players each had a hit in the game. Marc Zughaib drove in two runs while Scott Devine and Adam McDowell each drove in a run.

Kalamazoo returns to MIAA play with a doubleheader at Alma on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m.
