Baseball splits final conference doubleheader at Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team split its final conference doubleheader of the season on Sunday at Trine, falling 11-7 in the opener before winning the second game, 3-2.

Kalamazoo scored the first six runs of the first game, but Trine scored a run in the third and used a nine-run fourth to take the lead en route to the 11-7 win.

Trine had 13 hits in the game compared to 11 for Kalamazoo.

Brett Thomas was 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Mickey Amboyan was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Scott Devine also had a pair of hits in the game.

Kalamazoo scored three runs in the second inning of game two and held Trine to just two runs in the fourth on the way to the 3-2 win.

Kalamazoo had seven hits in the game compared to six for Trine.

Marc Zughaib was 2-for-4 including a two-run single in the second inning.

K.J. Schultz, Scott Devine, Eric Glanz, Brett Thomas, and Anthony Shaheen each had a hit.

Phil Earls earned the complete game win on the mound scattering six hits over seven innings without allowing an earned run. Earls walked one, hit one, and struck out one.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to wrap up the 2013 season with a non-conference game at Division I Central Michigan University on Tuesday, May 7 at 4:05 p.m.
