Adam McDowell playing baseball.

Story by Mitch Blankespoor

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Surrendering a run in each of the first two innings, the Kalamazoo College baseball was unable to come from behind in a 10-0 loss to Colby College (Me.) Tuesday, Mar. 25.

The Mules of Colby got three hits in both the first and the second inning. Kalamazoo junior pitcher Adam McDowell dampened the damage holding Colby to a single run in both innings.

After Colby added two more runs in the fourth, Kalamazoo loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth. Freshman Mitchell VanKoevering drove a ball deep into the outfield – right at Colby center fielder Collin Cummings.

McDowell gave up a leadoff singles in the home half of the inning and once again, stranded the runner. After the Hornets were retired in order, Colby added three more runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

McDowell took the loss allowing 10 hits over four innings. As a team, Kalamazoo totaled four hits and earned four walks.

The Hornets dip to 2-8 on the season with the loss. Kalamazoo will play its final game of the 2014 spring trip Mar. 26 against Thomas.
