KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team split a doubleheader with Albion College as Woodworth Field was dedicated on Saturday.

The visiting Britons spoiled the opener 10-4, but the Hornets won the series finale 9-2.

Albion led 4-3 after three innings in the first game before taking a commanding lead with four runs in the top of the fifth. Kalamazoo scored one in the bottom half, but Albion added two more in the seventh to secure the 10-4 win.

Kalamazoo outhit Albion 14-11, but the Hornets left 10 runners on base and allowed four unearned runs.

Marc Zughaib and Brett Garwood each went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Scott Devine was also 3-for-4 while he and Zughaib each had a stolen base.

Kalamazoo took advantage of three Albion errors in the second game, scoring five runs in the second and four in the third to take a 9-0 lead. The Britons scored both of their runs in the top of the fourth.

Aaron Schwark improved to 2-0 on the season with the win, allowing just the two runs on five hits in six innings. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. Blake Collins finished the game by pitching the seventh inning and did not allow a hit while striking out two.

Brett Garwood was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored.

Scott Devine was also 2-for-3 with three RBI while Mitchell VanKoevering was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The Woodworth Field Dedication Ceremony was held before the game and included comments by President Eileen Wilson-Oyelaran, Nancy Woodworth Tyler and Director of Athletics Kristen Smith. Players scattered dirt from the old Woodworth Field onto the new Woodworth Field and opening pitches were thrown out by alumni Si Johnson and Clint Wagner.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to return to action on Monday with a single game against Calvin at 4:30 p.m.
