KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team swept Olivet College in an MIAA doubleheader at Woodworth Field on Friday, 5-3 and 4-1.

Olivet scored the first run of the first game in the top of the second inning. The Comets added a second run in the top of the fourth.

Kalamazoo got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with Scott Devine's solo home run to left field.

Olivet made it a 3-1 game with another run in the top of the sixth. Kalamazoo responded with three straight singles in the bottom half. The next batter walked to bring in a run and make it 3-2. Carter Chandler followed up with a bases clearing double down the right field line to put the Hornets up 5-3.

Zach Popovich closed out the seventh in order to earn the save.

Zack Cole earned the win in relief. Dylan Pierce started the game and went five innings, allowing two runs on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

Devine was 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Chandler was 1-for-3 with the bases clearing double.

Olivet scored the first run of the second game, also in the top of the second inning. Kalamazoo responded with three runs in the bottom half to take a lead the Hornets would hold for good. John Jackoviak drove in a run with a single and two runs scored on Marc Zughaib's line drive to left.

The Hornets added a run in the fifth when Ian Kobernick drove in Zughaib with a single through the left side.

Aaron Schwark improved to 4-0 with the win, allowing just one run in five innings.

Ty Rock pitched a scoreless sixth and Brent Yelton earned the save without allowing a baserunner in the seventh.

Each team had seven hits in the game. Zughaib and Kobernick each went 2-for-3 for the Hornets.

Kalamazoo has won five of its last six games and is now 9-9 in the MIAA, currently good for sole possession of fourth place.

Kalamazoo and Olivet are scheduled to complete the series with a doubleheader at Olivet beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
