RICHMOND, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team lost its season opener 6-4 at Earlham College on Saturday.
Kalamazoo got off to a rocky start allowing four runs in the bottom of the first. Earlham added another run in the fourth before Kalamazoo made it a 5-1 game in the top of the fifth. The Hornets added two more runs in the top of the eighth but trailed 6-3 heading to the ninth. Kalamazoo pushed one run across before a pair of ground outs ended the Hornet comeback.
Kalamazoo had 11 hits in the game compared to nine for the Quakers.
Ian Kobernick was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Alex Fultz went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Joey Aliotta was 2-for-4.
Aaron Schwark took the loss in five innings of work.
Kalamazoo and Earlham meet again Sunday with a doubleheader scheduled to start at noon.
