Baseball splits day with Albion

Ryan Orr playing baseball.

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo College baseball team split a doubleheader against Albion today winning the first game 4-0, and dropping the second game 5-4. The Hornets are now 11-7 overall this season, and a league-leading 8-2 in MIAA play.

Game one was an absolute pitching duel. Hornet freshman Ryan Orr was extrememly sharp while throwing a complete game shutout. Orr struck out two batters and gave up three hits over seven innings.

Both teams were scoreless until Scott Devine broke the tie with a single RBI. The Hornets would wind up putting all four of the game's runs in that inning after other RBIs from Joey Aliotta and John Jackoviak.

Both teams had three hits in the first game but Kalamazoo's came at the more important times and that combined with Orr's gem allowed the Hornets to hang on for the 4-0 win.

Game two was much more of an offensive showing as it had three different lead changes with the Britons ultimately coming out on top.

Kalamazoo fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first, but Nate Donovan and John Jackoviak both answered with RBIs in the bottom of the second to give the Hornets back the lead. The Britons added another two runs in the top of the third and the Hornets had the answer again in the bottom of the fourth with RBIs from Ian Kobernick and Mitchell VanKoevering.

The Britons added one run in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 4-4 and took the final lead with a run at the top of the seventh.

Aaron Schwark threw 5.2 innings for the Hornets while giving up four runs on nine hits. The Hornets were outhit 10-7 in the loss.

Kalamazoo will look to win the series tomorrow in a doubleheader at Albion
