Baseball splits series with Albion

ALBION, MI – The Kalamazoo College baseball team split a road doubleheader with Albion today, winning the first game 2-0, and losing the second game 8-6. The two teams also split the weekend home and away doubleheader 2-2. Kalamazoo is now 12-8 overall and 9-3 in MIAA play.

In game one both teams remained scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when Connor Grant knocked in the game's first RBI. Then in the seventh inning Jack Clark knocked in another RBI for insurance.
The Hornets wouldn't need any insurance however because they received another shutout performance from their pitching staff. Today it was Nic Janssen throwing five scoreless innings followed by Ryan Orr throwing another two scoreless. Orr threw seven scoreless innings yesterday in a win and today got the save.

Both teams had eight hits, but the Britons committed three errors, while the Hornets only committed one.

In game two both teams were able to get to the opposing pitcher. Kalamazoo was trailing 1-0 after the first inning but put two up on the board off the bat of Carter Chandler in the top of the fourth.

The Hornets lead was short-lived as the Britons answered right back with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Each team scored one run in the fifth, Kalamazoo's coming from an Ian Kobernick RBI. In the sixth Kobernick had another RBI and the Hornets hung up two runs to take a 5-4 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth the Britons had their most productive inning as they scored four runs to take the 8-5 lead. Kalamazoo would score one more run in the top of the seventh off of a Todd Bonnivier single but it wasn't enough to catch up to the Brits.

Adam McDowell threw 4.1 innings while only surrendering two runs for the Hornets in the start. Kalamazoo outhit Albion 10-8 but also had four errors to the Brit's three.

Kalamazoo begins a four game series against Hope Thursday, April 9 at home.
