Baseball falls to No. 22 Ohio Northern

Ben Blomme playing baseball.

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo College men's baseball team lost two games to No. 22 ranked Ohio Northern Thursday 11-2, 2-0. These were non-conference games, so the Hornets remain in second place in the MIAA at 14-6.

In the first game everything went wrong for Kalamazoo in the first inning as it allowed five runs. The second inning didn't go much better for the Hornets as they allowed another five runs. The 10-0 deficit was too big a mountain to climb after only two innings.

Things did calm down after the first two innings, and the Hornets managed to get on the board in the sixth and seventh and got an RBI from Jack Clark.

Andrew Eaton was a bright spot from the mound in game one. He threw 4.2 innings and only gave up one run on five hits. He definitely helped calm the storm and limit the Polar Bears to only one run over the last five innings.

Game two was much more of a pitcher's dual. There were only a combined eight hits in the game.

Ohio Northern scored the game's only runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, other than that, both teams blanked each other.

Brent Yelton and Steve Simmons combined to throw five innings while only giving up one earned run on two hits. Even though Kalamazoo out-hit Ohio Northern 5-3 they couldn't put together the timely hitting when they needed to. The Hornets threatened in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded but weren't able to capitalize.

Kalamazoo gets back to league play Saturday, April 25 at Adrian.
