RICHMOND, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College baseball team finished off its first series of the 2016 season Sunday afternoon at Earlham College but was unable to come away with a win on the second day.

The Hornets fell in game one of the doubleheader, 13-4, and game two, 6-2.

In game one, Kalamazoo found itself in an early hole as the Quakers jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings.

Looking to mount a comeback Kalamazoo got two runs back in the top of the sixth courtesy of RBI singles from Ian Kobernick and Mitchell VanKoevering.

But Earlham responded. The Quakers countered with five runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning and distanced themselves enough for the closing innings.

Kobernick and VanKoevering led the way with two RBIs apiece in game one.

Game two proved to be more of the same as Earlham jumped out to another early lead, holding a 3-0 advantage after two innings.

Kalamazoo got itself on the board after trailing 5-0 in the top of the sixth with RBIs from Connor Grant and Brett Garwood, but that's as close as the Hornets would get the rest of the way.

Earlham added an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning and held the Hornets scoreless the rest of the way.

VanKoevering picked up where he left off in game one as he ended game two going 2-for-3. Five other Hornets recorded hits in the second game.

Kalamazoo will take an 11 day break from competition before traveling to Florida for a set of six games in seven days.
