Baseball completes series sweep of Albion

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team completed the four game series sweep of Albion with a pair of victories at Woodworth Field on Saturday.

Kalamazoo won the opener 7-6 in 12 innings before taking the finale 8-3.

Game One

The first game was scheduled to go seven innings. Kalamazoo led 2-0 after two innings but trailed 5-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth. The Hornets put up four runs in the sixth to take the 6-5 lead, but Albion pushed the tying run across in the seventh while Kalamazoo was unable score in the bottom half sending the game to extra innings.

Stefan Leclerc ended the game in the bottom of the 12th with a single to shallow left center. The Hornet runner on second initially held at third, but raced home after the throw from the outfield sailed to the backstop.

Kalamazoo used eight pitchers in the game with Chase Shelbourne earning the win after pitching the final three innings.

Jack Clark was 4-for-6 at the plate with two RBIs while Mitchell VanKoevering went 3-for-6 with two RBIs.

David Kracht, Ryan Orr and Jordan Wiley each had two hits.

Game Two

Since the first game went extra innings the second game was shortened to seven innings.

Albion scored first with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but Kalamazoo responded with eight runs in the bottom half as the Hornets batted through the lineup. Albion managed one more run in the fifth as Kalamazoo held on for the 8-3 win.

Dylan Pierce earned the win on the mound in 4.2 innings of work. Connor Young held the Britons scoreless over the final 2.1 innings.

Mitchell VanKoevering was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. David Kracht went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Ian Kobernick and Connor Grante each had two singles.

Kalamazoo (8-4-1, 4-0 MIAA) returns to action at Adrian College next Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m.
