Baseball drops pair of games to Hope

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team lost a pair of games to Hope College at Woodworth Field on Tuesday.

Game One

Hope used a five run third inning to take a 6-1 lead. The Flying Dutchmen added two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to go up 9-1. 

The Hornet offense came to life in the fifth with seven runs, but the rally ended with two runners in scoring position leaving the Hornets down 9-8. Kalamazoo put one runner in scoring position over the final two innings, but was unable to even the score.

Jack Clark was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Mitchell VanKoevering had a pair of hits including a double. Connor Grant also had a double while Stfan Leclerc had two singles.

Game Two (9 inn.)

Kalamazoo scored in each of the first four innings to take a 5-0 lead only to see the Flying Dutchmen score six in the top of the fifth. Hope added four more runs to take a 10-5 lead going into the bottom of the seventh where Kalamazoo scored twice before ending the inning with the bases loaded.

Kalamazoo put two runners on in the ninth before making the final out.

Kalamazoo had 14 hits in the game but left 17 runners on base. 

David Kracht, Stefan Leclerc, Nate Donovan and Jordan Wiley each had two hits in the game. Kracht and Wiley each drove in two runs. Ian Kobernick had a double.

Kalamazoo opens a series with Trine at home on Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m.
