Baseball splits doubleheader at Alma

ALMA, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team split a doubleheader at Alma on Saturday, dropping the opener 2-0 before winning the second game 9-6. 

Game One

Kalamazoo came up on the short end of a pitchers duel in the opener as the Hornets were limited to just one hit in the contest. Ryan Orr held Alma scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when the Scots pushed two runs across which led to the win. Brett Garwood had the lone hit for Kalamazoo.

Game Two

Kalamazoo scored five runs in the top of the ninth to earn a 9-6 come-from-behind win in game two. 

Alma led 6-1 after six ininngs before Kalamazoo scored three in the seventh to make it a 6-4 game. Kalamazoo pushed five runs across in the top of the ninth to take the lead and ended the game in the bottom of the ninth on a line-out double play.

Kalamazoo put together 11 hits in the second game led by Mitchell VanKoevering's 3-for-3 effort.

David Kracht and Brett Garwood each had two hits with Garwood driving in three runs.

The two teams return to action on Sunday with a doubleheader in Kalamazoo scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
