LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Scheduled to play two games Sunday, the Kalamazoo College baseball team took care of business in the first game of the day against Central College at Derby City Field winning 5-3.

Tied up 2-2 heading to the fifth inning, the tide turned in favor of the Hornets as a double down the left field line from Jack Clark and a single up the middle from Connor Grant drove in two runs giving the Hornets a lead they would never relinquish.

Nic Janssen relieved Aaron Schwark on the mound to start the bottom of the fifth and provided a lockdown three innings of work earning the win. Janssen didn't allow a hit and walked just one batter while striking out four.

The Hornets tacked on an insurance run in the seventh off a Mitch VanKoevering double which drove in Ian Kobernick before Steve Simmons and Scott Zychowski finished off Central in the final two innings as they did on Opening Day. Zychowski was credited with the save, his second in as many days.

Kobernick served as the catalyst for the Hornets' offense reaching base three times and going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. VanKoevering went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

The Hornets take on Spalding in game two Sunday afternoon.
