KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Playing a pivotal role in the heart of the Kalamazoo College baseball team's lineup and helping the team go 3-0 on opening weekend, senior outfielder Ian Kobernick was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's position player of the week Monday afternoon.
Kobernick, a Huntington Woods native, combined to go 6-for-11 with three RBI, three doubles and six runs scored in the team's opening three game stretch on Saturday and Sunday. He also walked four times and ended the weekend with a .667 on base percentage.
His strongest game of the weekend came against Spalding in the final game of the weekend where he went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one run driven in.
This is the second time in Kobernick's career he's been named player of the week.
Kobernick and the rest of the defending MIAA tournament champions will continue the 2017 season against Wesleyan on March 16 in the first of six games in Tucson, Ariz.
