TUCSON, Ariz. – In a game that continuously went back-and-forth all night, the Kalamazoo College baseball team came up on the wrong end of its opening game of spring break as the Hornets fell to Wesleyan, 17-9.

The Hornets, slated as the home team in their opening game, drew first blood in the bottom of the first. Jordan Wiley led off with a hit-by-pitch and immediately stole second. An infield single from Ryan Orr drove in Wiley before Orr came around to score himself on a Mitch VanKoevering single to left field.

Wesleyan battled back to level the score at 2-2 in the third before taking a 6-2 lead in the forth.

The theme of the game remained consistent, though, as Kalamazoo provided an immediate answer getting back three runs in the bottom half of the forth to get within one.

But that's as close as the Hornets would get the rest of the way.

Despite a comeback effort from the Hornets in the eighth, Wesleyan remained patient at the plate and countered with four runs of their own in the ninth, closing out the game in the bottom half.

Orr and Ian Kobernick led the Hornets' offense with three hits apiece. Five other Hornets recorded hits while six different players drove in runs.

The Hornets get right back at it tomorrow at the Kino Sports Complex as they're set to take on Hamline at 9:30 p.m. EDT, 6:30 MST.
