Baseball sweeps Trine in home opener

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team swept Trine in the Hornets' home opener Friday, 11-1 and 7-4.

Game One

Kalamazoo scored seven runs in the first inning and took advantage of a strong outing by Ryan Orr in the 11-1 win.

The 7-run first inning was highlighted by Alex Fultz's 2-run double and followed up by Josh Reuter's 2-run triple. The Hornets added two runs in the third and two in the fourth while allowing just a single run in the fourth.

Alex Fultz finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored. Drew Novetsky, Chase Coselman and Josh Reuter each had two hits.

Ryan Orr earned the win with six strikeouts in five innings of work.

Game Two

Kalamazoo scored a run in each of the first two innings, but surrendered two runs in the fourth. Trine pulled ahead 3-2 in the fifth, but Kalamazoo quickly regained the lead with two runs in the bottom half. Trine tied it up again in the sixth, but the Hornets regained the lead in the bottom half and added two runs in the eighth before securing the win.

Kalamazoo outhit Trine 11-6 and was led by Jordan Wiley's 3-for-4 effort with three RBIs and three stolen bases. Josh Reuter added two hits while Chase Coselman, Alex Fultz and Zach Prystash each had a double.

Garrett Swanson earned the win in relief while Ryan Orr pitched the final three innings and struck out five to earn the save.

Kalamazoo hits the road for a trip to Georgia where the Hornets will play a three-game series against Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) March 27-28.
